A difficult milestone
One year ago, Republicans passed the biggest tax scam I have ever seen.
Folks,
We’re approaching the one-year mark of the passage of Donald Trump’s so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
After a 27-hour vote-a-rama, Senate Republicans passed the ugliest piece of legislation I have ever seen by only one vote. One year later, we’re already seeing the consequences:
3 rural clinics in Virginia closed last year, and now, and now 1 in 5 rural hospitals in Virginia are facing immediate risk of closure.
Later this year, when the Medicaid cuts take effect, experts estimate that 310,000 Virginians will become uninsured.c
Utility bills keep going up, in no small part because this bill cut incentives for clean electricity.
And at a time when food prices are rising, it cut funding from nutritional food assistance and school lunch programs.
Let me be clear: This tax scam is gutting our social safety net, kicking millions of Americans off their health insurance, and raising prices for hardworking Virginians.
And for what? To give tax breaks to the very wealthiest in our country.
Even my Republican colleagues knew this bill is a political albatross. I talked to them about it. I tried to convince them to vote their conscience and stand up to Donald Trump. But ultimately, too many Republicans chose to cave to Donald Trump’s demands rather than stand up for what is right.
We couldn’t defeat this bill in Congress but, we can defeat the politicians who passed it.
That’s why this midterm election year is so damn important, and why I need your help before Tuesday’s end-of-quarter deadline.
The fight continues,
Mark Warner
